Story

It is an honour and a privilege to serve as the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire 2018-19.

My wife Lily Bacon DL and I have used our Shrieval year to support a number of regional charities and projects which benefit the community. We are squeezing in two more challenges in celebration of Cambridgeshire before the end of March!

FIRST: on Sunday 3rd of March we will run the Cambridge Half Marathon together. Whilst Lily is a regular experienced marathon runner, I have not run any significant distance since cross-country at school over 40 years ago, where I was usually last!  I have some arthritis in my ankles and knees, and have had some knee surgery a few years ago, so it is a very significant challenge, but one that I have been preparing for.

SECOND: on March 14th and 15th we are planning to walk the Hereward Way in pilgrimage between the great Cathedrals of our county in Ely and in Peterborough – a March March through March!

The funds we are raising will be distributed between East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and a range of smaller local charities through Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

Thank you so much for your support, which is making a real difference across the breadth and width of the county.
