Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

AKPA is a small but determined charity who try to help the many people in our area living with kidney problems or on dialysis, sometimes for their lifetime. Often you might see these people and they seem OK,  they endure the rigors of dialysis at least three times every week and if they do not, then they will die in a few weeks. A dialysis patient's life is like a hamster in a wheel. Treatments follow on in never-ending succession and if you are lucky you might have 2 days off at the weekend. AKPA tries to help patients make the best of this regime and to maybe get away for a break somewhere with dialysis, they have put in various things to make the unit more inviting and also to help the patients beyond what the NHS can provide. A transplant can help to get you out of this, but the waiting list without a live donor is long and the health of the recipient must be good to remain on the list. We try to help everyone including those with successful transplants with support of competitors in the Transplant Games.
