We support young people to make informed choices

Story

Health Opportunities Team is a charity that helps young people with their emotional, mental and sexual health, supporting them to live happy, healthy lives. We believe when young people suffer, talking helps - we listen, things can get better.

I've been a Project Worker for almost 2 years. Part of my role is to run the Feel Good groups. These are issue-based physical activity groups focusing on improving mental health, boosting confidence and self-esteem and generaly feeling better about yourself. The young people have worked so hard and improved so much during this time, with some becoming peer educators with a view to helping others.

The young people would like to go on their first residential, so we decided to try the Edinburgh Men's 10k. One of the young men Cammy Clunie and myself will be runing and we hope to raise some funds. Cammy was asked why he would like to raise the money - "I feel that mental health is extremely important to all people. I've been coming along to the Feel Good groups for almost 4 years now and can see the benefits to me and all the others who come along. I'm a big fan of all types of music and feel that this helps me in my day to day life. With all the stories of musicain taking their own lives such as Avicii, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington and Bob Welch I feel its really important for all to know that is ok not to be ok and there are places to go that will help you. This group has worked really hard on our mental health over the last few years and going away for a residential would be something we would all love to do. Any donations would be much appreciated"

If you have a spare moment and would like to help us achieve our goal it would be greatly appreciated.
