Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This walk will be the fifth in a series which I started from Mallaig in 2003 and which will eventually end at Cape Wrath. The photo above was taken on the fourth stage in 2012.
The route I intend to take can be seen on my OS Maps page at https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/osmaps/route/1112210/Braemore-Junction-Lochinver. It is 45 miles long and will, weather permitting, include two peaks (see photos below): Eididh nan Clach Geala (3041 feet) and Cul Mor (2785 feet). I shall start at the bus stop at Braemore Junction on Wednesday 17th May, and arrive after five nights' wild camping at a B & B in Lochinver on Monday 22nd May. I shall carry all my food with me, all hot food being reconstituted with boiling water.
I don't expect to have a mobile signal for much of the route, but will nevertheless endeavour to upload photos and notes on my progress occasionally.
For this leg I have decided to raise money for AMAR, just as I did on my first ever backpack in the north west Highlands 20 years ago. For 25 years, AMAR has been working in the Middle East providing emergency aid, healthcare and educational services to the poor and disadvantaged in the region, especially internally displaced people in Iraq. Since the Iraqi army started their offensive to liberate Mosul from ISIS, tens of thousands of civilians have fled the city, half of them children; so AMAR's services are needed more than ever. Much more information about AMAR's work and their Mosul appeal can be found at https://www.amarfoundation.org.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to AMAR. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for AMAR.
