Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the Christmas Day I will be embarking on a 100 mile run in aid of raising money for Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA). The aim for this run is to raise awareness for those suffering in the UK.

I myself became much more aware of these conditions recently when 2 of my best friends introduced their beautiful daughter to the world. Soon after she was born, Health care staff found out that she had a Cleft Palate and her care needed to be immediately changed. With more tests and investigations into her development as a newborn it was found that her Palate was a grade 1 Laryngeal Cleft alongside this she showed Pierre Robin Sequence (characterised by an underdeveloped jaw, backward displacement of the tongue and upper airway obstruction). Further investigations found her to be suffering with Tracheobronchomalacia (a rare condition that occurs when the tissue around the trachea/windpipe is soft and weak), she was also faced with Laryngomalacia (a soft larynx) alongside this.

My friends and health care staff work tirelessly to ensure she always has the most incredible care and she is the happiest and content baby. However, I feel awareness of these conditions is not high enough considering over 1,200 babies are born each year with Cleft Lip or Palates that can link between these other conditions.

Therefore, my aim with this run again is to make people much more aware of these conditions and to raise money for CLAPA to support those living with and adapting care for their loved ones close to them that are suffering with any of these conditions.

I would be incredibly grateful for any donation made and I’m sure I will keep you posted on this journey. Thank you.
