Few of you will know that OCD Action has been a great support to my sister. I asked her if she would mind sharing a little bit of her story…
“Many people think of the term 'OCD' as a comment on someone’s tidiness or their organisational skills. I mean, how many times have you heard the phrases; ‘Oh, you’re so OCD’ or ‘It's just my OCD’? For me that’s not my experience of OCD, and for all sufferers it is different.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a severe anxiety disorder that affects every area of your life for every second of everyday. OCD is ranked as one of the top 10 most debilitating illnesses worldwide. For me, OCD isn't just a phrase or a comment, but a monster. I've battled with OCD since I was 11; I'm now 18 and am still fighting it. My teenage years have been snatched away by this disorder, as well as my independence and confidence.
OCD Action puts you in contact with people like you, so that you can share experiences, access a huge support network and most importantly talk to people who understand exactly what you're thinking and going through! I cannot thank them enough for their support and their dedication to raising awareness and challenging the stigma surrounding OCD.”
