Some outsiders may see Delhi's chaotic traffic as nothing more than an inconvenience, however it is in fact a symptom of a crippled infrastructure that makes sanitation impossible, education difficult and healthcare futile. Furthermore, the general lack of internet access and technology education means that children from a slum background have reduced access to information, and are therefore less educated, making it even harder to compete for jobs against those from a more privileged background.

ASHA wants to reverse this trend, and works to better the educational and career prospects of Kalkaji's young people by offering educational and practical programmes to improve life in this Delhi slum through sanitation, education and improved infrastructure. 

In February 2018, Methodist College will continue their long-standing partnership with ASHA by sending a delegation of 16  pupils to Kalkaji to experience daily life there and work to improve conditions and better understand how we can have a more positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged people in Kalkaji and beyond.

While in the past this Methodist College project has helped deliver the first clean drinking water to the population of Kalkaji, in 2018 we hope to rejuvenate the ageing and inadequate IT equipment to bring it up to modern standards and ensure that the local population have access to modern technology. 

This improved access to information and technology will allow us to deliver a programme teaching vital skills in Microsoft products and basic coding that will ensure participants have education in the vital skills they need to thrive in India's competitive job market.
