Melanoma accounts for 4% of skin cancer but 80% of skin cancer deaths. In the 1930's Melanoma affected 1 in 1,5000 people, today, due to the thinning of the atmosphere it affects more than 1 in 50.

My aim is to run 250km across the Sahara in 6 days, carrying everything I need but water. This is know as the Marathon des Sable and is seen as "the toughest footrace on earth".

Every penny I raise is going to Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund in memory of my friend Pete Bursnall.

As an outdoor person who lost his life to Melanoma there is lots that needs to be done to raise awareness of the disease and also to raise much needed funds for one of the "Best Kept Secrets". For those who knew Pete he was a tremendously inspirationaly character. A Dad, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, guidebook writer, a team builder, an advocate and a thoroughly nice guy.

Money raised goes towards two different initiatives within the charity; one is raising awareness of how Melanoma can be prevented, the other is how Melanoma can be cured.
