We support people with disabilities to live fulfilling lives in their community

Story

This year, we thought we'd do a fundraiser and challenge  as a family, and whilst I may have been busy with endurance events over the years, to my other half Sue and my 13 year old son Callum, this is something new.

We're taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, with a route that is longer than the London Marathon (38.6km), and includes 2153m (7064ft) of ascent.

The challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours.

These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

By raising money for The Avalon Group we are helping provide meaningful moments and life opportunities for people with a disability and/or dementia in communities across Yorkshire and the North East.Your support ensures that they can provide responsive, personalised care and support which enhances and enriches the quality of people's lives.

The Avalon Group is an award-winning charity providing flexible person-centered care, support and companionship for everyday life, housing, learning and employment. They provide support to a wide range of individuals across the North of England.

Their customers include older adults, people with dementia, physical, sensory or learning disabilities, mental health difficulties, acquired brain injuries, and adults on the autistic spectrum.

The staff and carers are fully trained to deliver services that promote the right of every individual to be treated with respect and to be fully involved in decisions about their support.

Their services include: Support in your own home or wider community Everyday activities such as shopping, trips out, leisure and daytime activities Practical help with finances, tenancies, medication Developing skills to live independently Respite breaks for carers Accommodation and support in family homes Home-from-hospital help Regular customer events and parties Accessible holidays, travel and day trips

Please help us take on this difficult challenge and let's raise some money for this fantastic charity.

Thank you very much for your support.
