Event: London Marathon 2022, on 2 October 2022
In memory of Amarjit Bhachu
Running a marathon is an enormous personal achievement. Our London Marathon Golden Bond runners not only complete one of the most famous races in the world, but also raise funds to support some of the UK's most vulnerable children and young people.

Story

I am running in memory of my father Amarjit Bhachu, who passed away in November 2021 from cancer. He was my world and meant more than anyone can imagine to me.

Amarjit lived his life fearlessly in business, life and sports. At the age of 50, he started running half marathons, and at the age of 63 he broke his own lifetime record. He literally got faster every year. When he finally got a position with the Brathay Trust to run the London Marathon in 2020, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and did not make it to the starting line.

He believed that young people around the world should always be encouraged to make positive steps in life, career and businesses for the betterment of themselves, their family and those around them. He believed that having a positive wellbeing results in a positive mindset, and took the same forward with him every single day.

I am here to take his place on that starting line.

I am here to keep his name alive because to me, he will never be gone.

I am here to carry his message forward, the message of the Brathay Trust. Their life ambition and goal has been our motto.

We work with a wide range of young people, often with fewer opportunities in life, including those managing the transition from living in care to independence, at risk of exploitation in unhealthy relationships, needing confidence to find work or training, or facing other challenges in their lives.
