Fundraising for Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity
Story
John Wright is the president of the Rotary Club of Skipton. He is raising funds for BTRS in memory of his daughter Annette who died from a brain tumour when she was 11 years old. Two fellow rotarians ( Kevin Wharton and David Goldie along with two of their friends ( Rich Newall and Ray Cryer) want to help so they set themselves a challenge.

Have you ever wondered how long the boundary of the County of Yorkshire is……
Well, in July, four auld fellas will set off to cycle around it! Cycling on the minor roads around the edge of the county, they will ride around 425 miles. There’s quite a bit of climbing too, with the first day alone taking the team up more than 9000 feet. Ouch!
The four auld fellas are David Goldie (73), Ray Cryer (71) Kevin Wharton (65) and Rich Newall (by far the youngest at 55) and they will set off from Skipton on 14th July, calling at Hebden Bridge, Holmfirth, around the bottom of Sheffield, across the Humber Bridge then up to Scarborough. They will then head to Robin Hood’s Bay, Redcar and Guisborough before turning east to Barnard Castle and Dent and finishing back in Skipton via the Forest of Bowland, (hopefully in one piece) on Friday 19th July. With a combined age in excess of 260 years, they will not be quick, it’ll not be pretty, but they hope to make it in six days.
Now the serious bit…
The ride is raising funds for the Leeds based Brain Tumour Research & Support across Yorkshire (BTRS) and is in memory of Annette. The funds raised will be used to support the research being carried out by the charity to find a cure for brain tumours, to improve clinical outcomes and to give support to sufferers and their families when it is most needed.
