Story

How Waller Lost the Battle of Roundway Down
July 1643
Dr Chris Scott

A lecture and sandwich lunch
12.30 - 2.00 pm
Tuesday 11th July 2017
Hosted by
The Fusiliers Museum London in the
Officer's Mess of The Royal
Regiment of Fusiliers
HM Tower of London

On 13th July 1643 Sir William Waller had a combined arms force of some 5,000 reasonably experienced men. How was he beaten by Henry Lord Wilmot's cavalry army of less than 2,000!
Working from primary sources and period zeitgeist Chris Scott challenges the conventional location of the battle. Whilst the generally acknowledged understanding of the action is accepted, he will put forward at least two further and probably more telling reasons for consideration and debate.

Dr Chris Scott is an acknowledged expert on the English Civil War, with a string of publications on the subject and practical experience as a re-enactor. He has been a long term supporter and former Trustee of the Battlefields Trust. He is a great exponent of battlefield interpretation and presentation providing the academic framework for the Guild of Battlefield Guides validation programme.

Our hosts will be the Fusiliers Museum and the event includes a sandwich lunch, a glass of wine and the opportunity to network in the exclusive surroundings of the Fusiliers mess in HM Tower of London. If you would like to attend this lunchtime talk, please make a donation of £25 for each attendee (£20 for members of the Battlefields Trust) and email your name, contact number and any special requirements (dietary/mobility) to helen.perry@battlefieldstrust.com On receipt, email confirmation will be sent together with directions to the venue. If you have any questions, please ring 0207 387 6620. We look forward to welcoming you.
