Story
This year the BUCS Mascot Race will be raising money in aid of the Danny Porter Foundation. Dan Porter MBE was an inspirational individual, who championed sport at Sheffield Hallam University, and across the Country and was a strong advocate for BUCS Nationals.
For two decades, Dan was the driving force for the development of sport and physical activity at Sheffield Hallam University. He was inspirational to all at Hallam and The University of Sheffield with everything he did, especially to rugby union who have held numerous charity events for the foundation of the past few years. Sadly, he passed away after a strong battle with numerous cancers. After his first diagnosis, Dan set up the Danny Porter Foundation raising over £250k for good causes. In 2016, he was honoured with an MBE for services to Education and Fundraising.
The Foundation provides donations and grants to other charities providing research, support, care and equipment to people suffering from cancer and/or requiring neurological surgery. It also exists to share Danny's experience to help others through their own experience with cancer. The Foundation will help patients whose friends and family are struggling to provide the support they would like due to their personal circumstances.
The Mascot race will take part on Saturday 16th February as part of the Indoor Athletics event at BUCS Nationals. The suggested donation is £30.00 per entry. We will be accepting 23 mascots for this race.
