Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. This is Barry's story.
"You never get cancer. It always happens to someone else. Except that it doesn’t. When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year, it left me feeling numb and isolated. Whether or not this is a common reaction I don’t know. But it was mine. Fortunately, I have a loving group of family and friends who were (and are) supportive, but the isolation still lingers. It is the mental side of accepting this disease as much as the physical side – it never leaves your mind for a moment.
It is a sad fact that thousands of men contract this in some form every year. It is essential not to ignore it and to seek professional medical help. I have received amazing treatment and, although it was long and tiring, the cancer is now hopefully under control. It was during a discussion with my urologist, when we looked at the various options, when I thought to myself that I would do something practical to help battle this pernicious disease.
I know for a fact that I am not the only person at the Mill that shares this ailment, and they have given wholeheartedly their support for this evening. The Mill Theatre has played a large part in my theatrical hobby, and I am so grateful to our chairman, Doug Pope, and the governors for allowing this evening’s event. I also thank our talented performers who have given their time and talents so freely. Finally, I cannot omit a mention for the fantastic work done by Annette, Jill and all of the production committee. They are absolute stars."
On Saturday 2nd December 2017 at the Sharnbrook Mill Theatre, we are holding a Music Hall and Variety show in support of Prostate Cancer Awareness. From opera to magic, street dance to comedy, musical theatre to tap dance, there's something for everyone. Tickets are £15, which includes a glass of fizz, and can be purchased online at www.sharnbrookmilltheatre.co.uk
However, even if you have a ticket, or if you can't make the show, or indeed if we've sold out of tickets, we would still love for you to support the cause by donating on this page and sending a message to Barry and the cast.
Thank you.
