Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On July 24th at 12.53pm, I heard the most devastating news. My very good friend and her husband had lost their baby only 3 days from the due date.
I didn’t know what to say or do because nothing could make this better. There was no silver lining.
Their baby girl Beatrice was born sleeping on the 26th July at 5.10pm.
The tragic loss has touched so many people- family friends, work colleagues, friends of friends.
But although Beatrice was not meant to stay on this earth, she is already a special little girl who has brought people closer together, shown what immense love and support is all around us and shown the strength and resilience that people do not even know they have.
I bought my first road bike in February. I was initially unable to ride it but, with the support of people from a local cycling club, gradually built up my mileage and intensity until on 5th August I cycled 70miles. An achievement I was proud of and was further aiming to achieve my first 100 mile bike ride in 2019. But since nothing could be harder than what my friends and their family have gone through...I knew I had more to give than that.
So I pledge to cycle from Bristol to Edinburgh on 17th May 2019. In just 3 days.
The journey will mean 140miles a day with very little time for breaks.
The aim of this bike ride is to bring awareness of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and miscarriage, to encourage that open conversation and to further aid research and provide the necessary support that charities such as SANDS did for my friends during the immensely difficult times.
“Beatrice’s bike ride” - because she will never be forgotten.
