Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It is Bertie Carvel's 40th Birthday on 6th September. I know, it is just what everybody wants: people announcing your age to the world. I thought a nice thing to do would be to try to raise some money for a charity he has in the past mentioned he'd like folks to give to. As an added incentive....

One person who donates to this campaign will receive the above digital artwork by the extremely talented Doc, hand signed by Bertie Carvel.  Who doesn't want some golden art of Bertie Carvel, brandishing his own severed head, right?!

Everyone who donates may receive a colour print of this artwork with (printed) signature if they wish.

I'd like to thank Doc for creating this amazing artwork for me and for allowing me to use it in this way without any payment for herself.  I recommend you to check out her artwork and enjoy her work or maybe some day commission something unusual and fabulous from her.  Doc has written about her Bertie projects here http://citywatch.su/not-lost-hope/ & please do explore her site & lovely art further.  This wasn't just me saying "please create this" and an image coming back to my inbox - Doc asked for my specific ideas - we discussed the play, my ideas and she worked with me while sharing her process with me - I saw her doing some of the actual drawing by the magic of the internet.  It was all told a wonderful experience. Thank you so much Doc!

Secondly, I would like to thank Bertie Carvel very much, not only for bringing many and varied characters to life in so nuanced and psychologically real ways and for being a part of lots of brilliant art that's meant a great deal to me, but also for being incredibly kind, patient and generous with his time and for signing this artwork, which after some thought became the reason I set this page up in the first place.

If you just want to donate out of the loveliness of your heart, go ahead.

If you would like to be entered into the draw to win the digital artwork hand signed by Bertie and if you would like a printed copy of this artwork I would ask for a small donation of:

£2 if you're in the UK, £3 if in Europe or £4 International to cover printing, envelope and postage costs.  If printing turns out to be less expensive than the costs stated I will put all additional money into this charity fund.  I wish I could do this for free, but my theatre addiction means I am always penniless & though my head sets a modest target of £400, my idealistic heart hopes thousands of folk might want to donate and may also want a copy of this which would mean an awful lot of envelopes, prints and postage stamps.  Image will be scanned and sent to a proper printing place to hopefully be as high quality as is possible.

Please send £2 (£3 Europe/£4 international) via PayPal to co_wall@hotmail.com & then e-mail spiralstatic@rocketmail.com including reference to your Just Giving and Paypal payments - either screen grabs, or your name if you sign this donation page with your full name so I can see you donated here, and if you send money to my PayPal from a different e-mail, let me know your PayPal e-mail.  Sorry this is a bit confusing - using two email addresses - it is only as everything at hotmail filters to junk mail and I don't want to not send anyone their art!

If you want to be entered for the draw to win the original signed print, but do not want a printed copy if you don't win just e-mail me (spiralstatic@rocketmail.com) with a screenshot of your giving page or with your full name as signed on this page. No need for payment in this case.

Winner will be drawn by some random means on Saturday 21st October.  If you want me to announce you via twitter, please include your twitter handle in your e-mail to me.  Winner will only receive the original print, not a copy as well.

I will send off all print orders to the printers on Saturday 21st October too when I know final numbers and they will be posted out when received. I will also e-mail everyone who has entered on this date and request your addresses to post out your art prints (I have discovered Paypal doesn't let me know them automatically - you can of course send me your address now if you prefer, I just thought it would be safer to wait until I'm ready to post things when I can then address your envelopes and delete the e-mails containing addresses.) If for any reason you don't receive an e-mail from me on 21st October, please e-mail me again with your address to post your art to!

About the image...

The play Bakkhai at the Almeida Theatre in 2015 was special to me so I commissioned this artwork of Agave from the wondrous Doc.  I shan't say any more about the play here, but here's its page at The Almeida's website https://almeida.co.uk/whats-on/bakkhai/23-jul-2015-19-sep-2015 & if you didn't catch it at the time, you can view a recording of it at the V&A Archive at Blythe House if you're ever in London.

Original artwork is A5 & was signed on 5th August 2017 by Bertie Carvel following his performance as Rupert Murdoch in James Graham's Ink at The Almeida Theatre.  If you didn't catch Ink then, it is transferring to The Duke of York's Theatre from 9th September 2017 to 6th January 2018.  Catch Bertie, Richard Coyle and the entire talented cast in this wildly entertaining, prescient play.  So much fun, but with poignant depth to it too - you really ought not miss it - brilliant writing and fantastic performances! https://inktheplay.com

Though I thankfully don't have personal experience in this area, as a student, on placement, I did something with The Alzheimer's Society in my region and experienced how wonderful they are and also the impact of early onset Alzheimer's not only on the affected person, but on their family and loved ones.  Donating your money here, it will truly go to a good cause.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me - spiralstatic@rocketmail.com.

Thank you for your donation to a great cause! :)
