Story

Just over a year ago mum was involved in a road traffic accident. She was carrying out her job as a community support worker for disabled adults when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle which left her in a critical condition.

Mum suffered life threatening injuries including tears to the main vessel of her heart, bruises and bleeds to both lungs and kidneys, a shattered pelvis and breaking almost every bone in her body including 2 spinal fractures and spinal cord injuries which has now left her paralysed from the chest down.

Without the help of the air ambulance mum wouldn’t be here today, her body was so broken and fragile, it was incapable of keeping her alive. The highly trained medical professionals stabilised her on the side of the road and transferred her safely to the heath hospital.

Following  4 weeks in intensive care, numerous operations to put her back together again, countless hours of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, mum has gained herself 4 new wheels and has finally been discharged to her shiny, new, adapted home after a grand total of 319 days in hospital. .

I am so unbelievably proud of mum after defying the odds, conquering a million speed bumps and starting a chapter in life with such determination and positivity. She takes on any challenge thrown at her with such courage and determination and has worked her socks off to get where she has today.

Watching mum take on one of the biggest challenges in life not only inspired me to live life to the fullest but take on bigger challenges myself.. and you can’t get much bigger than Everest right? .. At a mere 18000 ft above sea level.

I’ve paid for this trip myself so 100% of donations will be going to the Welsh air ambulance charity as a thank you for saving mums life. Hoping to raise 10p for every meter climbed.

Wales Air Ambulance Charity is funded by the people of Wales and requires £6.5 million a year to keep its four helicopters in the sky, serving Wales and saving lives.
