Tour de Timor · 11 September 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As you maybe aware I took part in the 2011 'Tour de Timor' six day mountain bike cycle race across the Asian Pacific Island of Timor-Leste. I have been working here for the past year with World Vision in communities like Rileu (see the picture with the Kids) where we have with the community built a water supply which is saving and improving lives. Timor-Leste has one of the highest rates of infant mortality in the World and this scheme alone is not only providing safe clean water to the village, but will in the first year alone save the women and children, who used to walk for two hours to the bottom of the mountain to collect their water, from a river, over 210,000 hours a year. That will be well over 1 million hours saved in its first five years of operation. Added work with ecological sanitation and drip irrigation will help provide a sustainable future for the people of this mountain top community.
