We support Chinese community in the UK to access health service and information

Story

The Chinese community is coming together for the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre (CNHLC) because we want to support all of its amazing work.

On Saturday 30th June the UK Chinese community will be joining in solidarity to raise vital funds for the CNHLC.

A group of British Chinese students and young professionals will be walking side-by-side with elderly members of the Centre and other Chinese community members to raise money and awareness for the amazing work the CNHLC does.

Recent public health funding cuts of £60,000 has left the Centre in need of financial support and this walk is about raising funds to ensure the Centre can continue to deliver all of its needed services.

The Centre was founded in 1987 and aims to reduce health inequality in the Chinese community and provide access to medical help and support in the UK to Chinese people experiencing cultural and linguistic barriers. It is the only specialist Chinese medical and social care charity in the UK and, as such, positively impacts the lives of thousands of people every year.

The marvelous range of the Centre's work includes Hepatitis-B clinics; Mandarin and Cantonese Health Helplines; Dementia awareness and support; counselling for people with mental health issues and gambling addiction; weekly health walks for the elderly and more - the list of services goes on and on and keeps expanding to meet the changing needs of the Chinese community.

We’ve organised this walk to support all of this! We want the wider Chinese community to know just how much incredible work the Centre does. We believe this walk will be a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when the Chinese community in the UK comes together to support one of our own. Additionally, we hope it will demonstrate that we now have a younger generation of British Chinese who are willing to join in and show solidarity with our elders to make a positive difference.

Starting at 11am at the CNHLC in Soho Square, the walk will take us through Chinatown, into Trafalgar Square and through St James' Park all the way to the gates of Buckingham Palace.

If you are interested in joining the walk and would like more details about how you can help, please email me at michael.wilkes@christine-lee.co.uk

Don’t worry if you are unable to be there on the day of the
walk - you can still show your support by donating to this amazing charity. Donations of any size are most welcome and just know that anything you can spare will be going to an amazing cause!

Please note that donations can also be made via text by sending the code UKCH88 and the amount donated (i.e. £10) to the following number: 70070
