Story
I am running the British 10K on 9th July to raise money for REDRESS - an incredible organisation which works to obtain justice for torture survivors and to challenge impunity for torturers. They work on cases involving torture and related crimes countries around the world. They help torture survivors directly, work to build capacity with local organisations, as well as seeking to change laws and policies in order to contribute to the eradication of torture and our cruel and inhuman treatment.
I am also running in memory of Sir Nigel Rodley who died this year. I was privileged to have been taught by him during my LLM in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex. He was, among other things, formerly the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, a member and Chairman of the UN Human Rights Committee, and was involved in the drafting of the UN Convention against Torture. He was an extraordinary human rights champion, and a wonderful human being. He was also a patron and supporter of REDRESS, and I will be running in honour of him.
