Hi, my name is Carole Gavin. I am 60 years young. On 21st February 2011 I was diagnosed with cancer I had a grade 2 tumour in my left breast. I will shortly explain my journey.
Along with my friend Stephanie Finley We are going to raise money for St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust to thank them for all the care, compassion and treatments that I have had. So come on people put your hands in your pocket and show that you care.
I have a morbid fear of heights, I have decided to face my fears head on and wingwalk yes seriously, wingwalk, I hope to raise a lot money for the Burney Breast Unit Fund and the Lilac Centre Fund on a 50:50 split. Am I crazy, maybe, but if it helps others, by raising a lot of money and of course increases tena ladies profits, then it will be worth it.
 I have arranged the wing walk for Friday 22nd September 2017 at Aerosuperbatics Wingwalking Experience, RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester. OMG what have I done!
I am looking for amazing people to give generously and sponsor me, to help people in the UK who are following my path with a cancer diagnosis and being treated in the St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust. I say the UK as this NHS Trust treats people from throughout the Uk not just Merseyside.

Now about me!
After my diagnosis I was devastated, I was convinced that was it, I was going to die. The staff at the Burney Breast unit were brilliant and explained everything. It was then like a roller coaster. Three weeks after diagnosis I went into Whiston Hospital for a mastectomy, it was that quick. I wanted reconstruction and I went down the implant route. The first thing that was implanted was an expander, this is used to stretch the chest muscle to accommodate the silicon implant. Not very pleasant but necessary. After the implant I was booked in for 9 months of chemotherapy followed by 6 months of herceptin. I had every known side effect that can be attributed to chemotherapy and some they didn't know about. These included a very large blood clot up my right arm and In to my chest. I owe my life to one particular nurse in the lilac centre, who found it, she knows who she is. Thank you.
I now realise why hind sight is a wonderful thing. The implants did not agree with me, one turned almost upside down the others capsulated within months. After the 4th implant was unsuccessful, my surgeon said its time for the Diep flap. Panic then set in, this is a big operation up to 14 hours long. After much trepidation the date was set and I had the Diep flap, which was a great success. To date I have had 11 operations, and will be under hospital supervision for up to a total of 10 years.
You can see now why I feel so strongly about giving something back to the people who have helped me. In doing that it will help the others following behind me.
