We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Losing my dad to cancer when he was only 46 brought home the reality of how devastating cancer can be. My dad lead a healthy lifestyle & didn't deserve such a premature passing after an 18 month battle with this horrible disease.

He didn't know it at the time but he was a BRCA2 carrier meaning he was at a higher risk of developing certain cancers. It didn't stop there though, his children had a 50% chance of inheriting this mutated gene & I fell on the wrong side of that coin flip. However I was much luckier than he was as I have already benefited from the awesome work of Cancer Research UK.

When I was in my mid-twenties I was made aware of this defective gene & just after my thirtieth birthday, a simple blood test led to the discovery of an ovarian tumour. It's been 4 years & 1 month since that ovary was removed. Not only am I tumour free but I've since had 2 awesome kids & life couldn't be better.

Unfortunately my kids will eventually be facing that same coin flip when they are tested for the BRCA2 gene mutation, but I'm confident with the right funding, Cancer Research UK will provide even more options for them should they need it.

This September I will be walking 10,000 steps a day to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Please help me beat cancer and support me in every one of the extra steps I’m taking by sponsoring me. I’m doing the distance because I want research to find kinder cures and save more lives. Thanks for visiting my page.
