Story
I am organising a Family Charity Night in December to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.
My family have suffered the curse of Breast Cancer for many decades. My mom died at the very young age of 50, as did her mom. As a result of this I underwent genetic testing to find I was carrying the BRACA2 gene. I immediately had my ovaries removed, and then double mastectomies 11 years ago. All our family members are invited for genetic testing, and all so far carry the gene, my sister included.
When my daughter, Megan turned 18, she decided she wanted to take the genetic testing. We saw the geneticist, followed by several counselling appointments. This was to ensure she understood the implications; of course she understood, she's grown up with it, shes never met her grandma; she visited her mommy in hospital at the age of 7; she knows its not missed any of her female relatives yet.
While in the car travelling back from the blood test, Megan and I decided to organise a 'Pink Party' regardless of the results. Either to celebrate, or to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Now.
After a long 5 week wait for the results, we recently received the amazing news that Megan hasn't inherited BRACA2. So, with the help of Breast Cancer Now we are holding a charity night, to give something back, and raise as much as we can for a great cause.
