Hi Everyone!

Tom and I will be taking part in the British 10K London run again on 9th July 2017 to raise much needed funds for FirstTouch., the charity which support the neonatal unit at St Georges Hospital, Tooting.

As many of you will know, this is a charity which is very close to our hearts. They helped us through the hardest time of our lives (as they do with many families) when our precious daughter Charley was on the neonatal unit 3 years ago. Although our angel did not make it, the friendship and support we received from FirstTouch whilst Charley was on the unit was invaluable. We will be forever grateful for everything they did for us.

Please help us to support this wonderful charity by giving a donation, however small, so FirstTouch can continue with their wonderful work.

Hello all,

A quick update, thanks to everyone who has continued to support the First Touch charity through our site and by other means, it is really appreciated and on a personal level has helped Christine and I control our grief immensely.

Thanks to my nieces and nephews who have forgone the odd birthday present in favour of a donation to the charity. 

Thank you also to my clients who have been very generous to the charity, you know who you are and know that we love you for it.

Thanks must go to several one off/continuous clients that contacted me to carry out work knowing that a percentage of my fee went to First Touch.  That still stands as does our coin jar contributions, so hopefully we can help St Georges purchase more equipment for the intensive care unit.

Just to update you all .

You have all been amazing so far and together we have raised a lot of money to purchase life saving equipment for the neonatal unit at St George's Hospital. Hello, we would just like to let all of the generous people who donated to Charley's Just Giving page what you have achieved.  

St Georges Neo-Natal unit has taken delivery of two Neo-Puff machines, both funded from the donations made by you.  The machines are used to resuscitate babies that have been born with breathing difficulties, these devices will save lives on the unit and we are very proud that they have been bought in Charley's name and that the hospital has ordered a plaque for each device with the wording, In Memory of Charley "The Farley" Mullen.

Charley's page will remain open and we will continue to add funds which will hopefully purchase more equipment for St Georges Hospital.  If you have a spare few pounds, it will be much appreciated and of course it will all go to an amazing cause.

Christine and I took part in and completed the  British 10k London Run in July 2014 alongside 25,000 other runners running for many different charities.  We, of course, ran (I wobbled) for First Touch.  Christine beat me by five minutes and looked as good as new at the finish line,  I on the other hand looked like I had been dragged round the 10k course by my ankles and am still having nightmares.  I am going to Kwik-Fit next week to have my rubber kneecaps replaced.

First Touch is a fantastic charity supporting sick and premature babies and their families at St Georges Hospital in Tooting, London.

The Neonatal Unit (NNU) at St George’s Hospital cares for over 600 new-born babies each year (up to 39 at any one time) in the intensive, high dependency and special care nurseries at the hospital, which is based in Tooting, South West London. Who are we?

If you are reading this there is a good chance that you know either myself (Christine) or my husband Tom and maybe even our little heroine Charley.  Many of you have asked whether you should send flowers or make a donation to a charity in Charley's memory. We have signed up to do the London 10km run on the 13th July 2014. So we would much appreciate any help in reaching our goal of £500 In support of First Touch.

Charley was born at an extremely premature 26 weeks and weighed just 1lb 8ozs. Much less than a bag of sugar.  She was a very feisty young girl and became a favorite with the nurses in the intensive care unit, although she kept them very busy during their shifts.  If Charley needed a nappy change, food or some attention, boy did she let them know!  She was born extremely ill and with constant care from the doctors and nurses gave us hope several times only to be hit by several nasty infections at crucial times.  Unfortunately in the end her respiratory system was just too badly damaged and she passed away peacefully in our arms aged just shy of ten weeks.  During these short ten weeks we were provided with accommodation whenever she was having a bad time and were all treated with a great deal of care and compassion

Christine as you may know is the size of a large hamster and has feet to match, so the 10km run should provide a stiff challenge as a hundred yard trip to the shops can take upwards of an hour, especially if she bumps into a cat en route.  She will be wearing a specially constructed flashing hat to prevent our fellow runners stepping on her. Christine has taken part in various charitable events in the past including a parachute jump for MIND.  It has also been rumored that upon marrying Tom she embarked on a “Sponsored Nag” which still shows no sign of relenting.

Tom was raised by a family of hedgehogs after being mislaid in Ravensbury Park by his nanny who was distracted by a gang of squirrels, some say this is why he can come across as a bit prickly at times.  Tom regularly completes a 10km journey but he is normally sitting on a tube eating a sausage roll.  He is not in great shape fitness wise at the moment, in fact his shape reflects that of a sack of potatoes, so the effort to complete this event will take some training and genuine effort.  He has promised not to get a bus and the organisers have ensured that there are no pubs to distract him on the specified route.  Rumors that a stick will be attached to Toms head with a bottle of cider dangling from it to encourage forward momentum have been neither confirmed nor denied.

First Touch is a truly marvelous charity that has, and will continue to save lives and provide care to many people.  We hope that you are able to make a donation no matter how small; if possible you can also “Gift Aid” your donation which will mean that an extra 25p will be added to your donation for every £1 donated.
