After losing my grandfather to prostate cancer, I would like to be able to give something back to Macmillan cancer support. Due to their care and support he was able to stay in the house that he had spent all of his married life in until he passed away. My other grandparents always took a great interest in racing until we lost them so I feel that this is a wonderful way to remember them. 

I have always wanted to try my hand at riding racehorses but was a bit scared of trying something new so I told myself to toughen up and put my name forward for this race. I normally stick to showjumping, always trying for a collected and balanced canter so my first day on the gallops was an eye opener! I was told we were going for a jumpers canter, it felt like a flat out gallop to me! 

Cancer touches all of our lives at some point, £213 would pay for a Macmillan nurse for a whole day to provide much needed support.

Macmillan Charity Raceday is a fundraising collaboration between York Racecourse and Macmillan Cancer Support. The day of professional racing and fundraising has been held annually since 1971, raising more than £7 million in total for Macmillan and other charitable causes. For the last two years has raised a grand total of £500,000. This year, we hope to raise even more as the demand for our services continues to grow.
