Story
This fundraising page is set up in Loving Memory of my wonderful Dad, Chris Clements.
Since I was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile onset) Diabetes in 1987 at the age of 7, Dad has generously given to Diabetes UK.
Straight away he learnt everything he could about my condition and helped people understand that “Type 1”is a completely different condition to “Type 2”...it’s nothing to do with biscuits!
Type 1 is a lifelong autoimmune disease which is caused by an unknown virus that can strike anyone at any time. Living with this often debilitating condition has been tough, but he’s been there every step of the way. From protecting me ‘back in the day’ when I had to ‘shoot up’ insulin four times a day, to holding me up in the sea when I almost passed out (when we overdid the snorkelling!) to researching the latest research and technology..he’s been there.
Recently science has changed and it’s possible to live an (almost!) normal life with a small insulin pump attached to the body - you can eat more freely, excercise without so much fear and reduce the many additional side effects. He was recently researching how to fund a CGM monitor to use with my pump which would make life even better.
We hope that in honour of Dad, your kind donations mean the next generation of children may never have to suffer.
We will be very grateful for any donations in Dad’s honour to either of the two amazing charities (The other linked page is for Macmillan Cancer Support). Once you donate, the money is sent directly to the charity. via Justgiving.
Love, light and warmth, Ann and Ceri xx
