My name is Chris Jammer and I am an ambassador for leading UK children's bereavement charity, Grief Encounter. 

On the 24th April 2018, I lost my mother to cancer. She had already fought and beaten an 8-year battle with breast cancer, but was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer after the sudden death of my grandfather and his wife. 

To mark the first anniversary of her death, and to remember and celebrate her life, I have become an ambassador for children's bereavement charity, Grief Encounter, and I will be tackling this challenge in her memory, raising funds for the charity. 

44,000 dependent children are bereaved annually in the UK. Adolescent grief has a devastating impact that can last for life, with research showing links to mental health issues and serious social and behavioural problems without early intervention. This is where Grief Encounter makes a difference.  By offering innovative, pioneering and accessible support to children and young people, they provide a way out of the isolation that comes hand in hand with experiencing the death of a loved one. 

Bereaved children are not seen as a vulnerable group in society, and as such receive no government funding. Organisations like Grief Encounter, offering free bereavement support, therefore rely solely upon the generosity of its donors - you. Every penny you donate goes towards funding support for the one child in every classroom who has experienced the death of a parent or sibling. From 1:1 counselling to residential, family fun days, workshops, alternative creative therapies and a new helpline for children and young people; Grief Encounter offer young people a way to navigate through the confusing journey that is grief. www.griefencounter.org.uk
