I have been very fortunate enough to have been accepted for a
volunteering placement for International Service!

For 10 weeks I will be volunteering in developing regions of northern
Ghana. Working with the charity International service, all projects undertaken follow an intrinsic human rights framework. International Service is a UK based charity which focuses on sustainable charity work across the developing world.

The charity partners with existing domestic charities in order to ensure
our efforts can be coordinated as efficiently as possible. The scope of our project has not been revealed, but will focus around the livelihoods and well-being of vulnerable children, young people, women, and those with disabilities. Our work will target these marginalized groups in order to vastly improve their accessibility and knowledge regarding their own basic human rights.

The project will involve complete immersion in a new culture and way of
life. Living with a host family will present numerous personal challenges. I will be following new traditions, eating new food, and adapting to all new conditions.

Whilst I have lived away from home at university, living in northern
Ghana will be a much larger challenge. The project has already given me a huge amount of confidence, meeting and interacting with new people, and working towards a common goal have been extremely rewarding.
