Story

As everyone who knows me knows, I love living in the amazing city of Bristol so much. For me, there is nowhere that beats it. However, increasingly over the past few years I have realised that my experience of this city is entirely shaped by where I live within it. I am lucky to live in an area with plenty of access to all types of high quality food- I have an organic food store a 5 minute walk away, and if I want to eat out I have access to amazing food from all over the world. But what if my circumstances were different and I lived in one of Bristol’s multiple food deserts, where there is a lack of access to decent, affordable supermarkets or greengrocers selling good quality fresh produce. I think my  experience of this  city would be very different.

Therefore,  today, on my 34th birthday I am forgoing the large chocolate cake I absolutely would have bought today (and it probably would have been a Colin the Caterpillar 😂) and giving up sugary treats (chocolate, cake, biscuits, ice cream, deserts etc) for the next 30 days. I will give the money I save at the end of the month to The Matthew Tree project in order to help them provide services for living in food poverty in Bristol.
