Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Colchester United will be teaming up once again with the Teenage Cancer Trust for the coming season, thanks to nine month long test of endurance from Executive Chairman Robbie Cowling and director Richard Cowling.

The club’s partnership with the national charity has been a long standing one, having first started with a big fundraising effort by the 2005/6 U’s squad in the memory of young supporter Emily Begg, who passed away from leukaemia aged just 14.

At that time, the squad raised over £20,000 and subsequent years have seen the U’s make further fundraising efforts for this cause, which ended with the construction of a parents’ kitchen and rest room area in their facility at the University College of London.

This season will see potentially our biggest fundraising push yet, however, with chairman Robbie and director Richard Cowling embarking on an incredible effort during the course of the season to help raise further funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Robbie explained: "Myself and brother agreed earlier this summer to cycle to first and last away games of the season and to run to each of the home games from my house in Great Totham.

"This will be a challenge for us both as we look to raise a great deal of money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

"If anyone wants to support this fundraising effort during the season or do a part of the bike ride or the runs with us, we’d be very grateful to see you be a part of that."

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the six young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day.

To do this, they develop specialist units within NHS hospitals that do just this. They want every young person with cancer to have access to this specialist support, no matter where they live.

Laura Woodcock, Regional Fundraiser for East Anglia of the Teenage Cancer Trust said: "We are thrilled to hear about Robbie’s latest fundraising endeavours  for Teenage Cancer Trust and we hope Colchester United fans will support him in the same fantastic way they have over the past few years.

"Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people between the ages of 13 and 24 who have cancer.

"We rely completely on donations to fund our vital work.  Nothing we do would be possible without the generosity and support of people like you."

Laura and Emily’s father Stuart were both in attendance at Monday’s Media Day and the hard work starts in just a week’s time for Robbie and Richard.

Their quest to cycle to the first and last games of the season will see them take on the mammoth trips to Preston in August and Carlisle in April, meaning over 600 miles in the saddle for those two matches.
