We provide respite and end of life care to make the most of short & precious lives

Story

3 Cornishmen, 3 vintage tractors, 3 days & over 300 miles.. that’s the Cornwall Three Way!

It was all inspired by a large map hanging on the wall of Edward Bucklands board room; the full road map of Cornwall. A tangle of B roads, unnamed roads, unmade tracks and several ferries. The concept was simple; circumnavigate Cornwall on 3 vintage Massey Ferguson 35 tractors in 3 days. We spent several hours sat around aforementioned map in the boardroom and, as Google Maps wondered what on earth we were up to & smoke billowed out of the calculator, we worked out a route that would be over 300 miles, taking us on 3 ferry crossings & circumnavigate the whole of our beautiful county.

300 miles in 3 days... doesn’t sound like much of a challenge does it?! In a car, it’d be no problem; air conditioning on, favourite tunes on the radio, comfy seats and good suspension. But we’ll be driving tractors built in the 1950’s which were designed to plough fields at 3mph.. not cover countless miles on Cornwall’s back-roads with a ride comfort that resembles that of the old “bone shaker” bikes!

So what’s the point, I hear you ask. Well, that’s simple.. we want to raise an ambitious £10,000 for two fantastic causes. As Cornishmen working and living in the agricultural sector, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) is an excellent charity close to our hearts. They support the men, women & children who support the whole county by producing our food. More information about RABI can be found here;
The second worthy cause is Children’s Hospice South West, a truly wonderful charity supporting Children with life-limiting conditions & their families. Their vital work helps hundreds of children & families who are in need of support. More information about Children’s Hospice South West can be found here;
I know that by this point you will desperate to help us in this challenge to raise vital funds for two brilliant charities. Well, we’d be delighted for you to support us. Please donate anything you can to help us reach our target of £5,000 for each of these worthy causes. We have this “Just Giving” page which can be used to make individual donations, or please do get in touch about corporate sponsorship. We will be donating to each of the charities equally, so whilst 100% of that raised via Just Giving will go to Children's Hospice South West, this will be matched by distributing funds raised via other means to RABI. We also have a couple of competitions running to win some wonderful hampers. Get in touch to submit a guess for “average speed” and/or “total mileage covered” along with a £5 donation per guess and you could be in with a chance of winning one of two beautiful Cornish Hampers.

We’ll be keeping you posted with our progress one the run up to & throughout the event. You’re all invited to meet with us at the two mid-journey stopping points;
Monday 9th July - Join us at The Old Ferry Inn, just on the Polruan side of the Fowey-Bodinnick Ferry for a pint and to see how we’re getting on
Tuesday 10th July - Join us at The Napoleon Inn, Boscastle for an evening with the Boscastle Buoys. Unfortunately, we probably won’t be able to hear them thanks to the engine noise of 2 days solid on the tractors!

Well.. that’s some of the history & the concept of what we’re trying to do. Please do get in touch if you’d like to learn anything else about The Cornwall Three Way. Other than that, wish us luck & please do give generously towards these excellent charities

All the best
Martin
