We increase the pool of stem cell donors to give patients a second chance of life

Story

Hi everyone, thank you for visiting my just giving page.

I’ve always wanted to tick the item of running a marathon off my bucket list.  I have applied for a place in the London Marathon (as I said it was the only one I’d ever do) for the past 10 years with no success.  I now realise that they were waiting for me to get old, fat and unfit before offering me a place.  So this year, the state of my lazy, alcohol riddled, McDonald’s eating body must have reached the ballot machine and BOOM, winter was ruined!!

Now, if I’ve got to put myself through hell this winter & spring, I figured I needed some motivation to get my backside out in the wind, rain and snow.

I may moan and whinge about the battle ahead to reach my goal of 26.22 miles but the reality is that it is absolutely nothing compared to the battles endured by many in a less fortunate position than me on a daily basis.  Battles to continue living!!

I have chosen to support a charity called DKMS and you can find out all about their good work by clicking on their logo above or visiting www.dkms.org.uk

Both my niece Arabella (pictured) and my good friend Andy were recently diagnosed with Leukaemia and have both received stem cell transplants this year.  Luckily, all is going well at the moment for both of them in their recovery from this horrible illness.  Without the fantastic work of DKMS, I dare not think of how different this year would have been for my family and friends.

For me and you to be able to give a little back to support this great charity really will mean a lot to many many people who have been though and are going through hell.

Also, if you haven’t already, log on to their website and register as a possible stem cell donor.  They’ll send you a swab and a freepost envelope to return it and who knows, you could be able to give the best gift of all to someone.

Big love to Arabella & Andy!! Keep fighting hard!!

Dan
