Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Another year and another fundraising challenge - this time the toughest yet! My target is to walk 1200 miles across the UK end to end from John O'Groats in North East Scotland to Lands End in South West England. I plan to start in late April and complete the trek in about 9 weeks - averaging around 20 miles per day. There are many route options but the basic rules are to use national trails and public footpaths, avoiding main roads as much as possible. Due to the length of the trek, whilst I have some clear plans for the itinerary I have to remain flexible to allow for unforeseen events, injuries and possible rest days.
The rough outline of my trek is a follows:
John O' Groats - Fort William 227 miles 11 days incl Great Glen Way
Fort William - Jedburgh 205 miles 10 days incl West Highland Way
Jedburgh - Edale 249 miles 15 days incl Pennine Way
Edale - Ironbridge 95 miles 5 days incl Staffordshire Way
Ironbridge - Chepstow 122 miles 7 days incl Offas Dyke Path
Chepstow - Barnstaple 129 miles 6 days incl Exmoor
Barnstaple - Lands End 170 miles 8 days incl SW Coast Path
For the most part I will be walking alone, however anyone who wants to come and join me for a day or so will be more than welcome. I will be supported by my wife Cath for much of the way in a motorhome to avoid the need for B&Bs and carrying a full pack, although there will be some points where I need to camp or stay in hostels.
I will be updating via Facebook, Twitter and also using Viewranger/Social Hiking to track my progress in real time online.
Thanks in advance for your support and motivation, it's a fantastic and deserving cause and I want to raise as much as I can to help. Please donate as much as you can.
