Story

Sam Spoons (real name Martin Ash)

8 February 1942 - 27 September 2018

Having come to fame with the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band in the 1960's Sam continued to entertain fans with his unique humour and dazzling playing of the spoons right up to his final show on 7 September 2018.

In addition to the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Sam played with the Bumper Puzzle Band Kit, Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band, the Bill Posters Will Be Band, Tatty Ollity, Three Bonzos And A Piano, the Bonzo Bills, (the band with whom he performed his final show) and many local musicians and friends.

Many friends knew him as Martin the cricket player, or the creative gardener or the artist.  He always had a zest for life and an infectious enthusiasm for so many things.  That enthusiasm extended to Sam using every opportunity to raise money for a number of worthy charities.

His wife Judy advised that the North Devon Hospice helped Sam in his last days and that it would good for them to receive the donations of his family, friends and fans in his memory.
