Story

St Martin's church stands in the hamlet of Dunton in north Buckinghamshire.  It is a beautiful little church and is the community's only indoor shared facility.  The medieval chancel was basically constructed out of rubble and is now falling down.  The community faces some difficult decisions in the times ahead and, as part of the process of deciding what to do, will need to commission a 'Statement of Significance'.  This will tell us whether the chancel holds any particular significance and will cost around £1300.

So, I plan to walk the parishes of the Schorne Team (my team of parishes) as part of the Ride and Stride on September 8th - it's a walk of around 20 miles - in order to try to raise the necessary sum to commission the report.  Today I have promises through other routes of a little over £1000 towards the £2600 I will have to raise to give half to the Bucks Historic Churches Trust (as is customary) and cover the cost of the report.

Please take pity on an aging parish priest and help this tiny hamlet.

Many thanks.

About the charity

Churches often act as the focal point for communities providing much more than a place of worship. The Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust gives grants to churches in Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes to help with the repair and maintenance of these important buildings.
