For many years, I have lived near the Leeds and Liverpool
Canal so it has been part of my life in that respect.

Just over 5 years ago, I had a quadruple heart bypass following a heart attack. As part of my recovery plan, I walked the full length of the canal - 127 miles from Leeds to Liverpool.

During the walk in 2011, I became aware of a heritage group - The Leeds and Liverpool Canal Society.

The Society promotes the canal's history & environment ensuring its traditions & heritage survive. The society owns the heritage shortboat Kennet, maintained by volunteers,
travelling along the canal with displays & hands-on activities to communities, organisations & schools.

As the Leeds and Liverpool Canal will be 200 years old in 2016, I saw a new challenge.

This will be a walk of 200 miles, from coast to coast, following waterways as much as possible. The journey will start in Hull, follow the River Humber and River Ouse, then follow the Aire and Calder Navigation, and finally the complete length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, ending at Liverpool on 23^rd October 2016.

The walk will coincide with Kennet’s recreation of the first passage to mark the opening of the canal on 22^nd
October 1816.

I hope to raise money for the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Society, to help to fund the running costs of Kennet and also
to provide funds for other Society activities. Any donations you are able to make will be gratefully received, and will make a contribution towards protecting the heritage of the canal in the future.
