Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm taking part in the Great South Run alongside my football team AFC Riverside.
I wanted to raise some money for the fantastic Eye Unit at Southampton Hospital. If it wasn't for their amazing care, I would have lost my sight in both eyes.
I contracted acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) from being too relaxed with the cleanliness of my contact lenses. I had worn them for far too long and cleaned them only in saline solution. I would also often shower and swim with them in. This caused me to contract the very rare condition.
What started out as being a stinging sensation in both my eyes soon turned into the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. My eye sight deteriorated to be able to see only a couple of meters away, and I could barely venture outside into the bright sunlight.
Southampton Eye Unit were fast in action, identifying the condition, giving me the operation and treatment I needed to hopefully rid my eyes of the parasite. After 6-9 months of treatment, I thankfully made a full recovery. Many others are not so lucky, and for that I thank Southampton hospital.
Please help me raise some money for them, so that I can hopefully show them some of my appreciation.
