We help young people facing challenges to move towards a positive future

Story

Having become familiar with the work of Greater Manchester Youth Network through a students’ project, I was really impressed by the impact they make with young people across our city and was honoured to be asked to become an Ambassador for the charity.

Last year I took part in the Team Chronomaster Charity Challenge and rode my bike across the Pyrenees.. In 2020 I will ride 8000 miles and will take every opportunity to share with the people I ride with the story of GMYN.

GMYN creates positive opportunities for 13 to 25-year-olds with experience of care, unemployment, disability or other forms of social isolation.

Last year, with fundraising support from the community, this work helped 738 young people take steps towards a positive future.

GMYN vision is #YoungPeopleCan

Care Experienced Young Person’s Story, Salford

“Before GMYN, I went to another youth club. The other kids were abusive to me – they carried knives and I didn’t feel safe. I was accused of being a bully but I was the one being bullied. Nobody listened to me. I used to be scared of coming out of my house and just sit on my phone in my room.

“When I first came to GMYN, I was nervous. I didn’t want it to be like the last time but I’ve really liked meeting new people and I have learnt new life skills, which will help when I live on my own.

“I don’t feel scared anymore – I have people to see and I feel like people listen to me now.”
