This challenge is to raise awareness and support for Muscular Dystrophy, a truly frightful condition that effects thousands of children around the UK.

What is muscular dystrophy? There are around 60 different types of muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions. These conditions are characterised by the loss of muscle strength or progressive muscle wasting. They are mainly inherited but can occur out of the blue. These conditions can cause greatly shortened life expectancy in some types and there are currently no cures for any of the muscular dystrophies.KEY FACTS 70,000 people in the UK have muscular dystrophy or a related muscle wasting condition. Every week, five people born in the UK will have muscular dystrophy.Over 150 children a year in the UK die from muscular dystrophy.

Muscular Dystrophy UKMuscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions.Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them. But we do.Since 1959, we’ve been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them.Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity bringing individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions. -    We support high quality research to find effective treatments and cures; and lead the drive for faster access to emerging treatments for UK families. -    We ensure everyone has the specialist NHS care and support they need, with the right help at the right time, wherever they live. -    We provide a range of services and opportunities to help individuals and their families live as independently as possible.
