Fundraising for Deer Initiative Limited
Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Deer / Vehicle Collisions kill or severely injure over 30,000 deer in Britain - every single year! In most years they also lead to about 250 traffic accidents in which people are injured and 10 to 15 human fatalities.
This is an issue I have felt strongly about for many years, and I now oversee a National Research project (www.deercollisions.co.uk) for The Deer Initiative (Reg. charity 1082289), to assess the true scale and geographical distribution of this problem, and identify accident black-spots where improved preventative measures are needed. The core costs of the research and staff time to build that national database are already being funded by a number of organisations led by Highways Agency and Scottish Executive. However, I am keen to do much more than simply assess the scale of the problem.
Therefore, I ran the London Marathon this year to help raise Public Awareness of this major animal welfare issue . Many thanks to all who have already helped me raise the extra funds needed to enable purchase and widespread distribution of publicity materials (such as car window stickers, wheel cover stickers, leaflets, posters, etc. etc.) aimed at increasing awareness among drivers and the general public.
It is of course not only the deer that are affected by this issue. Through directing the deer collisions database, I have met or talked to many people who have either been badly injured themselves (often leading to spinal or head injuries) or have lost loved ones in such deer/vehicle collisions. I have therefore also been raising funds for another charity, the "Spinal Injuries Association",
(via my second page : justgiving.com/jlangbeinSIA). So thanks again to all who sponsored me on-line .....and of course further donations continue to be welcome !
