Story

Last year, you helped me through a tough month by raising hundreds of pounds for a charity which helps people I love.

This year I'm going to do the same thing and give up chocolate and cake for January in the hope that West London Kidney Patients Association.gets a good start to 2015.

Over the last year I have spent a lot of time at Hammersmith Hospital and seen the good work they do to help kidney patients before, during and after transplantation. They need a lot of help though and that's where this charity comes in.

When you are on a renal diet, it's difficult to try to find foods that don't cause problems and so I appreciate the fact that I can eat anything I want. I'm addicted to cake and chocolate and to refuse it for a month is actually a lot harder than you would think - especially during these dark, depressing months.

If you could support me by donating for a very worthy cause, I would be very grateful. In 2014, we raised £610 without gift aid. This year, I would be happy with just even £100 for January.

The association is a cause dear to my heart as it helps raise money to help people like my dad who spent years with end stage renal failure, in other words, no working kidneys. My dad and two of my great-uncles (one who sadly passed away not that long ago) have been treated with great care by the staff at Hammersmith Hospital and at on of its satellite clinics.

It's a horrible life to lead being in constant pain and regularly having to be hooked up to machines to try to clean your blood while waiting desperately for a kidney transplant that may never come. It's also hard on those around them, so the work the association does to try to make life bearable is key.

If you want to donate, cool. If not, thank you at least for reading our story. Please consider also organ donation.

Thank you so so much.

Dhruti
