He's buttering the toast now. Does he plan to continue living in Seattle?

"Yeah. There are just two places in the world where I'd live, Seattle or Scotland."

What part of Scotland. I enquire, thinking maybe Aberdeen.

Kurt looks at me as if it's one of the strangest questions he's ever been asked. "I don't know, probably Edinburgh."

In December 1991, during Nirvana's European tour, Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl gave a brief acoustic performance at Edinburgh's Southern Bar - an event organised by their friends The Joyriders in aid of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Witnessed by around just 30 fans, the performance assumed almost mythical proportions among Nirvana fandom - primarily because of the scant details surrounding the songs played - and because no recording and only a single photograph of the night had emerged.

Earlier this month, one of those attendees made an - incomplete - recording available, filling in one of the missing pieces of Nirvana's time in the United Kingdom.

Given the charitable nature of the original event, LiveNirvana.com - a website devoted to archiving the work of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana - has chosen to support the Royal Hospital for Sick Children as part of a Christmas fundraiser, as a way of thanking the taper for their foresight in recording this special event.

Please give what you can to help the Hospital's wonderful work for Scottish children.
