Story

The EAWA Team will be walking on 30th June 2019 in Milton Keynes Stadium. To help us raise funds for EAWA, please donate by Just Giving, so that we may continue with our Vision to Serve the Community.

EAWA is a Registered Charity (No. 1109149) that provides Health and Social Care services in Enfield and surrounding Boroughs.  The services that EAWA provides are:

1.       A High Need Day Care Centre for Asian Elderly people. This caters for 100 places a week.  It has a mix of clients challenged with Dementia, Stroke and other complex needs.

This is EAWA’s core offer, providing its service users with health-based activities  that are tailored for disability and ageing, like:

Chair Based Yoga/Tai Chi/Dance;

Health Workshops; Complementary Therapies (Indian Head Massage, Reflexology);

A delicious hot vegetarian lunch;

Leisure Activities like flower arranging, outings, and celebrations of Festival/Birthdays;

Transport both ways managed by EAWA.

This service has the additional benefit of providing:

An opportunity for local people to meet each other, make new friends and extend their network.

Our clients' carers a respite and a break from daily caring for their elderly.

Our clients to express their personalities, engage in conversations beyond their daily routines.  For those with dementia, EAWA shares photographs of their day via iPad email to enable discussion.

A knitting group where some of our clients knit hats and scarves for homeless people, many learning knitting from scratch.

2.      A Memorable Melodies Asian Singing Group

A monthly activity, open to people with dementia, carers and to people
of all ages who have an interest in Asian singing.

3.      A number of Non-Asian specific services.

EAWA runs a 50plus Activity Club for independent people where they can:

Participate in more rigorous chair-based Yoga;

Take part in Om Chanting plus Tai Chi provided in partnership with another group;

Join a Members Club providing a range of Taster Workshops and a Complementary Therapy Service.

4. Historically EAWA has run many projects that are
non- Asian centric
.

Within the Enfield Borough, EAWA has undertaken:

A Hospital Intervention Project for carers of older people, involving 2 hospitals and Social Services;

Falls Prevention with Age UK Enfield;

The Winter Parcels project for those in need

About Us: EAWA is ISO9001 accredited and has been for over a decade. These National/International Quality Standards were attained in recognition of the sound processes and procedures that underpin our ways of working and because we believe that older people deserve to be supported by a Quality Organisation.

EAWA had been Investors in People accredited for 9 years and have imbedded systems to ensure high quality standards.

EAWA has a dedicated team that is fully committed to the welfare and wellbeing of its clients.

EAWA believes in Strong Values, High Quality and encourages dialogue at all levels so that there is Ownership, Responsibility  and Continuous Improvement in how its work is shaped.

EAWA would like to improve its premises, ideally locating office and day centre in a single venue. This will enable it to develop more services that the community needs.
