Dr Adrian Root was a wonderful colleague and friend who died from cancer at a tragically young age. He was an amazing man: talented, funny, caring and patient. He trained as a GP but found his vocation when he came to LSHTM in 2013 to take the MSc in epidemiology. Testament to his talent as a researcher he was then awarded an MRC Population Health Scientist Fellowship to pursue a PhD within the Electronic Health Records Research Group. His main project was investigating patients who need to take large numbers of medications and what we could do to reduce adverse effects. Sadly, he never got to complete his work.

To honour Adrian and the impact he made in his time at LSHTM we have set up a prize to be awarded annually to an LSHTM MSc epidemiology student who has worked on an Electronic Health Records project. To keep this prize going into the future we need to raise £12,500. Among the ways in which we plan to do this, members of our research group will be cycling from London to Paris in July 2018.

If you would like to contribute to honouring Adrian’s memory we would be very grateful for all donations. Through this prize, we hope to continue what Adrian did when he was alive: helping people to understand the benefits of health research, and inspiring the next generation.
