Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of my dear friends and family know, I was quite ill over Christmas/New year 2018/19 and after a little time spent in a private hospital (read: toy hospital) I was deemed fit to be discharged. Somehow I made it home but with serious deterioration the following day, my dear friend called an ambulance, which is what we all do and rely upon in an emergency, and so off we sped to The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, East London.
Since my admittance to the Royal London (a real, proper NHS hospital) in January of this year, I have been overwhelmed with awe and gratitude to the phenomenal medical staff, particularly the Ambulance crew, A&E Emergency Dept and the High Dependency Unit, all to whom I owe my life and I want to thank all the wonderful, compassionate and hardworking staff who make this superb NHS Royal London Hospital what it is.
So, what could I do as some small thank you? While convalescing at home I was perusing the hospitals website and lo, there it was, 'Run the London 10k'! Yikes!
So I thought, its now or never, and this summer, July 21st, I will be attempting my first 10k, ( we've all got to start somewhere) as a thank you to the Royal London Hospital. Being a complete beginner and only just starting to run, (well, I've bought the shoes) this will be quite a challenge for me. I will not be setting a target time or personal best, ha ha, so long as I can throw myself over the finish line within 1hour 45m and not die afterwards, it will be an achievement.
The Royal London Hospital was founded in 1740 and is a leading, internationally renowned, teaching hospital. It is one of the largest Children's hospitals in the UK and one of London's busiest A&E Departments. It is also the home of London's only Air Ambulance.
The Friends of the Royal London Hospital is a charity, established in 1979 and was set up to provide aspects of care for patients' environment and their peace of mind. These selfless volunteers freely give their time and expertise, and are dedicated to improving amenities for patients and medical staff in all wards. The Friends also purchase equipment for patient care and research when NHS funds are not able to do so.
If you would be kind enough to sponsor me, any amount great or small, I and The Friends of The Royal London Hospital would be very grateful. The money you donate will enable the Friends to continue their significant work.
Thank you very much.
