Story
Edinburgh University Cycling Club is made up of a diverse mixture of people from all across the world, but what unites us other than our love for all things cycling, is the effect of cancer. In today's world one in three people will deal with the disease as it can form in anyone, regardless of their age, gender or race.
Macmillan Cancer Support believes that nobody should deal with Cancer alone. From the diagnoses to after-care they're there to help in any way, providing key support to people and families affected.
Riding around Arthurs Seat for 24 hours non stop was an idea dreamt up by club member James Parsons. The Volcano is an iconic landmark in Edinburgh, with most visitors, locals and students having climbed it at some point. For cyclists however it also offers the unique challenge of a circular road with a hard climb in the heart of the city. Often rides will begin or end on it's tough slopes, and races are also held up its steep gradients. But riding it for 24 hours is on another level. Nobody in the club has attempted a 24 hour cycle before, and certainly not on a course that gains nearly 100 meters of elevation on each lap.
Our riders will be pushed to their mental and physical limit during this attempt, and we'd like to invite those local to Edinburgh to join us for a lap during the event, to chat and show your support for Macmillan and the Cycling Club.
