Story
On Sunday 29th March I will be swimming 2.5km (100 x 25m lengths) at Darwen Leisure Centre to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie as part of Swimathon 2020.
I would be really grateful if any of my family and friends would be kind enough to support these two wonderful charities by sponsoring me in this event.
Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are uniting as partners for Swimathon 2020 to raise as much money as possible for two causes close to everyone's hearts.
Cancer Research UK want to bring forward the day where all cancers are cured. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled. In the 1970s just a quarter of people survived. Today that figure is half. By 2034, we want to see three quarters of people surviving, but this is only possible through supporters taking part in events like Swimathon.
Swimmers will help fund the 4,000 doctors, nurses and research scientists across the UK that develop pioneering new ways to diagnose, treat and cure cancer. Together we will beat cancer.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families.
Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care and emotional support.
Nine hospices provide round-the-clock, specialist care for people in their local communities. And we offer practical information and emotional support to everyone affected by terminal illness, including family and friends.
Marie Curie has been a charity partner of Swimathon since 2007. Thanks to Swimathon and the generosity of our supporters, this partnership has raised more than £17 million to support our vital services.
