Story
Since first posting this page, I sadly lost my Nanna in February this year. It was one of the most heartbreaking things to watch someone I love dearly disappear so quickly. I just hope she's at peace now, and to know that I am going to make a difference for people with Dementia no matter what it takes!
For those of you that know me, will know this is an extremely tough challenge for me, especially as I hate flying. But I am determined to help, so that's right I'm going to SKYDIVE this year.
In July 2013, after a long and stressful process my Nana was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.
What started as an irregular heartbeat and severe dehydration has turned into a completely different lifestyle for her. Watching someone you love dearly deteriorate so quickly in front of your eyes is heartbreaking. From my once happy, care-free Nana, to a scared, aggressive and confused woman is extremely difficult to deal with. Fortunately my Nana isn't as 'advanced' yet but it's inevitable that sufferers will begin to forget parts of their life, and sadly those around them.
People who are facing or living with Dementia will know it is a very long and hard battle. Carers and families need as much support, advice and knowledge as possible through the difficult times. We discovered that Dementia is neither well understood nor well funded, leaving many sufferers and their families to struggle alone.
Having witnessed first hand the difficulty living with Dementia, I want to raise awareness and funds, to help not only my Nana enjoy the rest of her life, but by helping others to get the early diagnosis and support they deserve.
Maybe you already know someone with the illness? Someone you know and love may get it in the future.
I need to raise at least £395 before they will even consider my application. But I want to smash that target!!
So dig deep whilst I jump from a great height and help support those, who out of no fault of their own and after years of supporting others, rely on someone to care for them 24/7.
Love you Nanny B ❤️
