Raynaud's & Scleroderma Association

We want to find the cure to Raynaud's & Scleroderma

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Emma Finney. At the age of 12 I was told I had Raynaud’s Syndrome, a condition affecting circulation in and around my extremities. This condition, despite causing literal pain and discomfort has not altered dramatically the way I choose to live my life.

I am fortunate.

In the autumn of 2012, during a return journey from the Channel Islands I became chronically sea sick. In the resulting months I experienced a flare up of my Raynaud’s Syndrome and IBS affecting my brain functioning, mental clarity, energy levels and general wellbeing. For the first time I experienced how debilitating this condition can be.

In trying to obtain an appropriate medical diagnosis I was faced with much ignorance. During this time the Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Association offered both support and useful information. In March 2013 I participated in some Research into the Raynaud’s condition, carried out at Glamorgan University. Once again I was amazed at how little resource and information surrounds these conditions; conditions which affect many individuals and families throughout the UK and World.

My own circumstance and struggle has led me to take a more direct approach. In the autumn of 2013 I intend to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to help raise funds for the Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Association.

Having now had first-hand experience I appreciate how crucial their support and continued research is to the lives of sufferers and their families; mine included.

I cannot achieve this alone. I ask you, with much sincerity to consider donating to this cause. The biggest thank-you I can offer is to help raise awareness. Without doubt the work carried out as a result of any funds raised will be invaluable to current/future generations and will assist further in the understanding (and treatment) of this condition.

The Aims of the Association are simple:

- Promote a greater awareness of Raynaud’s, Scleroderma and associated conditions

- Help with the education of these conditions

- Improve communication between doctors and patients

- Put patients in touch with each other in order to exchange ideas and information

- Offer advice and support to sufferers and their carers

- Raise funds for research and welfare projects

Despite being simple these aims cannot be realised without your support.

Leaving on September 29th, i fly out in an attempt to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in the name of raising awareness into these conditions. Please, if you can pledge your support.

On behalf of myself, Emma Finney and the Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Association I thank you.

Please give as generously as circumstance allows.
