Fundraising for Fight for Sight
Story
Fittingly, on World sight day, Thursday October 10th two sisters, Emma Fletcher-Auty and Catherine Parsi will be taking their first steps to climb Kilimanjaro. This is a challenge they have set themselves to raise awareness and raise funds for a very small charity Fight for Sight. A charity dedicated to funding pioneering research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease.
Catherine’s daughter, Sienna was born prematurely and subsequently developed Retinopathy of Prematurity which has left her with no sight in her right eye and only light perception in her left. To be told your child is blind is a very hard thing to take.
Sienna is a remarkable child and through her guts and determination strives to achieve everything her six year old twin brother can do... ride a scooter, ride a bike, ride a horse, climb a tree, she attends mainstream school and is learning to read and write braille.
She is fiercely independent and overcomes adversity every day. Her family are immensely proud of her achievements. She laughs, she sings and is a very happy little girl. This is why her mum and aunty have set themselves this challenge to climb Kilimanjaro.
They will spend 7 nights, 8 days sleeping in tents on the mountain and will cover around 42 miles, up to an altitude of 5895m/19,342ft.
Our challenge will take us 8 days, Sienna’s challenge is lifelong.
